A little of our history…
1926
Back in the 1920s household removals were not as commonplace as they are today and brothers Bob and Ted Ede had the foresight to purchase an area of woodland, part of which they developed to form their own homes and gardens. The remainder of the land provided wood products which were sold, alongside aggregate, as part of their combined haulage and removal business. When a household removal was to be undertaken, a canvas ‘tilt’ was lifted on to one of their flat-bed trucks – the earliest of which was a solid tyred Leyland Peerless.
1950s
Bob’s eldest son, Peter, joined the business in the early 1950s and during the next few years he gradually turned the firm in to a purely household removal business.
1960s
The first purpose built pantechnicons joined the fleet in 1961, followed by our first warehouse in 1962. Through Peter’s hard work (and sense of humour!), he built the reputation of the business.
1970s
Further warehouses were erected on our site and the removals business went from strength to strength.
1980s
In 1984, Peter’s eldest son, Norman joined the business.
1990s
During the 1990s Norman branched out in to European and worldwide moves and Lee Buckland joined Ede Bros.
2000s
Peter retired, although was still working in to his late 70s.
Today
Norman and his family still live on site at our premises in Capel. Although Lee has taken over the day-to-day running of the business Norman is still very involved and continues to help with removals and quotations. We are now moving in to the fourth generation of Ede Bros with Norman’s sons helping out when they are home from University/College.
The woodland on site still thrives, providing a fascinating natural habit for flora and fauna.
Sadly Peter passed away (February 2020). We will miss him hugely but his spirit and enthusiasm for removals lives on at Ede Bros.
